(01) Fully Funded PhD Position 

PhD position summary/title:–PhD position on guiding and confining mechanical wave energy in 3D chiral metamaterials

This position is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Candidate Position (DC09) within the MetacMed Doctoral Network.



Applications are invited from suitable qualified candidates for a full time, 36 months fixed-term position, as a Doctoral Candidate (DC) on the MetacMed Doctoral Network at Empa.
This position is DC09, which is one of 12 DCs being recruited as a part of a European-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network (DN) on Acoustic and mechanical metamaterials for biomedical and energy harvesting applications– ‘MetacMed’.

 

The successful applicant will be enrolled on a PhD programme at ETH Zürich, and will work on the topic of “Guiding and confining wave energy in 3D chiral metamaterials” under the supervision of Dr. Andrea Bergamini, Empa, Laboratory for Acoustics/Noise Control and under the academic supervision of Prof. Dr. Dennis Kochmann, ETH-Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering. Secondments at Amazement, Warsaw (PL), 4 months, and CNRS Lille (FR), 4 months, are foreseen for this position.

(02) Fully Funded PhD Position 

PhD position summary/title:–  PhD Position in Polymeric Fiber Biomaterials: Microfluidic wet spinning of hydrogel-coated functional sutures

  • Master’s degree and strong background in polymer science or microfluidics 
  • Highly motivated and good communication skills for working in a multidisciplinary environment 
  • Proficient in spoken and written English for scientific publications and national/international conference presentations
  • Previous experience in one or more of the following topics is required: X-ray analytics, antimicrobial materials, hydrogels

  • MSc in environmental engineering, industrial ecology or similar 
  • Experience in modelling and evaluating energy and material flows of society, for example with material flow analysis or life cycle assessment 
  • Familiarity with model building, data science and programming or willingness to learn 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

You are a highly motivated and dedicated candidate with an MSc in Energy, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering (or related field). Strong programming, modeling, and data analysis skills in Python support you in contributing to our ongoing software development efforts.
