The Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA) and the department of Mediastudies currently have a vacant PhD position as part of the ERC funded research project Eco-Islam in Indonesia: Media, Institutions, Publics, led by principal investigator dr. Our research group focusses on harnessing the wave-like properties of cold atoms to realize new types of quantum sensors for fundamental physics, geoscience, and real-world applications such as position, navigation and timing. We have extensive experience developing state-of-the-art matter-wave interferometers for sensing accelerations, rotations, magnetic fields, and testing fundamental theories of gravity and electrodynamics.

We are looking for an experienced researcher to aid the development of a transportable inertial quantum sensor with cold atoms. This project included the development of a new experiment at UVA aiming at using advanced quantum control techniques to perform continuous atom interferometry. It also includes a collaboration between the Quantum Gas group at UVA, the University of New Brunswick in Canada, and quantum-tech companies Q-CTRL in Australia and the Quantum Valley Ideas Lab in Canada for the joint development of a transportable gravimeter. You will play a crucial role in developing metrology models for the inertial quantum sensor operation, and for building and assembling hardware components. You will have the opportunity to work for extended periods in Canada and interact directly with leading experts in academia and industry.

Our Ultracold Strontium Gases Group is offering a postdoc position on our QuantumDelta NL (QDNL) Ultracold Atom Quantum Sensing Testbed. HIMS performs internationally recognized research in molecular sciences, both curiosity as well as application driven. Within the Synthesis and catalysis cluster, the Homogeneous Catalysis (HomKat) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in a project funded by Dutch Research Council (NWO).

Utilizing organic nonlinear optics (NLO) for data storage presents significant advantages over traditional inorganic-based counterparts, including eco-friendliness and sustainability. Plastics have become essential in our daily lives. However, at the same time, they create a serious wasteproblem. Recycling waste plastics is of great importance for a sustainable society. Chemical recycling isone of the promising options to close the loop of plastics use. In this project, which is part of the recentlygranted EU project PLASTICE, we will develop liquefaction route for recycling the plastics waste, in collaboration with other partners of the consortium. This applied project aims to translate the results from the lab to a larger scale.

The project entitled “Understanding parallel communication in the brain using novel micro-optical probes” has recently been awarded the prestigious NWO M1 Grant that supports 36-month postdoctoral research. The project aims to understand how the enigmatic higher-order thalamic nuclei influence the cortex via parallel pathways. To do so, we will take an unprecedented approach combining a novel micro-optical probe (that has been recently developed) with electrophysiology, optogenetics, and calcium imaging in the rodent brain in vivo.
