(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoc MediaMinds – Computational Mechanisms of Social Media Use in Youth

We have an urgent need to better understand the social media engagement of youth. Social media supports the specific developmental needs of youth, such as those for social connection. However, the increased sensitivity of the developing brain to social rewards may place youth especially at risk of compulsive use. In addition, youth’s sensitivity to social influence exposes another potential vulnerability, given that not all information is trustworthy. In this project we will focus on novel computational models to capture the complex interactions between developing motivational and cognitive processes, and specific social media affordances. We will take a multi-method approach relying on social media trace data, experience sampling, the development of novel ecologically valid experimental tasks, and neuroimaging.

The team will consist of the PI, two PhDs and one Postdocs, as well as a large network of collaborators and co-supervisors.  The total funding for this project is 2M euros for a period of 5 years and is divided over two main work packages. (for more detail WPs see here).

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoctoral Researcher in Microbiome Spatial and Metabolic Adaptation to Dietary Interventions for

We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project, CurboSupport, funded by the Dutch Research Foundation (NWO). The project aims to identify optimal combinations of carbohydrates and proteins that enhance the production of beneficial digestion and fermentation products within various segments of the intestine. These products are crucial for promoting metabolic health, bolstering immunity, and supporting brain health.

In recent years, there has been growing recognition of the vital role played by gut microbiota in producing metabolites essential for overall host health. This encompasses products vital for immune function, metabolic well-being, and, more recently discovered, brain health. Studies have revealed that gut microbes influence cognitive function and the brain’s reward system, which regulates appetite, through the production of short-chain fatty acids and compounds like tryptophan-metabolites.

However, it’s understood that different segments of the intestine have distinct requirements. Therefore, the overall goal of the project is to identify strategies that stimulate the production of beneficial microbial metabolites in various parts of the large intestine to promote metabolic and brain health, while simultaneously enhancing immunity in the small intestine using specific dietary fibers or combinations thereof.

Achieving this will necessitate a deep understanding of microbial metabolic processes and their spatial adaptation to different protein and carbohydrate combinations, which constitutes the primary focus of this vacancy. Ultimately, this research will enable us to predict which combinations are most beneficial for the host. The position will be situated within the group “Microbiome Engineering” which recently transitioned from the university of Groningen to the University of Amsterdam. The group’s mission is to explore the role of the microbiome in human health. Working alongside a team of microbiologists, molecular biologists, biochemists, and neurobiologists, you will play a key role in establishing connections between microbiome adaptation in the gut environment, human health, in particular, gut-brain axis, and the development of diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.

Postdoc  summary/title:– 3 Postdoctoral Positions in Catalysis Engineering

The Catalysis Engineering group focuses on developing sustainable chemical processes by combining chemical engineering, chemistry and materials science. We are looking for three highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work in a project funded by the European Union.

Plastics have become essential in our daily lives. However, at the same time, they create a serious wasteproblem. Recycling waste plastics is of great importance for a sustainable society. Chemical recycling isone of the promising options to close the loop of plastics use. In this project, which is part of the recentlygranted EU project PLASTICE, we will develop liquefaction route for recycling the plastics waste, in collaboration with other partners of the consortium. This applied project aims to translate the results from the lab to a larger scale.
