Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). This position is funded by a collaborative project funded by the Taylor Geospatial Institute (https://taylorgeospatial.org/). The title of the project is: “Rethinking Multimodal Localization Systems at Scale in Challenging Scenarios“. The project aims to advance research in the field of network-based localization by looking at GPS alternatives, e.g., but not limited to, 5G networks, by harnessing the potential of multimodal approaches. Examples of solutions would explore the synergy between Open-Radio Access Networks (ORAN), LiDAR Cameras, and smart access points equipped with multimodal antennas to enhance localization accuracy and scalability. 

The NIH funded Postdoctoral Associate position is opened in the laboratory of Dr. Sergey Korolev at the Edward A. Doisy Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine to study structural basis and molecular mechanisms of DNA repair and recombination. The main project is focused on the novel mechanism of nucleic acid strand exchange and phase separation by the intrinsically disordered tumor suppressor PALB2 (Partner and Localizer of BRCA2) (eLife, 2019,8:e44063; BioRxiv, 2023.06.01.543259v4).  The Department hosts numerous state-of-the-art facilities from X-ray crystallography and EPR spectroscopy to single molecule microscopes microTIME200 (Picoquant) and C-Trap (Lumicks) with an access to the Center for Cellular Imaging and cryo-EM facilities at Washington University in St. Louis. The Korolev Laboratory is a member of the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center with an outstanding network of research expertise and facilities. Additional collaborative projects are focused on cryo-EM and X-ray structural analysis of macromolecular complexes. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, chemistry, or molecular biology. Experience in one of the fields including structural biology, biophysics, single molecule spectroscopy, molecular biology, or biochemistry is required.

A postdoctoral scientist position available at Saint Louis University to study the connections between lipid load, mitochondrial biology, and cardiac arrhythmias in animal models of cardiomyopathy and heart failure. The position entails working with C. elegans, in addition to ongoing funded studies of inter-generational cardiovascular effects of Nicotine exposure in mice. The lab is also open to topics of mutual interest, as they relate to heart failure and/or cardiovascular toxicity of tobacco products in youth.

An immediate postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Gucan (Gabriel) Dai at the Edward A. Doisy Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Saint Louis University School of Medicine. We are seeking candidates with a solid publication record in biophysics and biochemistry, specifically in the field of ion channels or membrane proteins. Prior experience in patch-clamp electrophysiology or fluorescence cell imaging using advanced fluorescence microscopy techniques is highly preferred.

The Dai lab focuses on investigating the fundamental mechanisms underlying ion channels of excitable membranes, employing a multidisciplinary approach that combines structural biology, chemical biology, genetics, fluorescence microscopy, and electrophysiology. Notably, our lab is equipped with a state-of-the-art frequency-domain fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy, which is the only one of its kind in the state of Missouri.

We are currently pursuing research directions summarized below:

Investigating the voltage-sensing mechanisms of voltage-gated ion channels that play a crucial role in various diseases such as chronic pain, cardiac arrhythmia, and epileptic seizures. Key techniques for trainees to learn include patch-clamp fluorometry (PCF), Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET), as well as the application of fluorescent noncanonical amino acids (ncAAs).

Elucidating the mechanisms involved in the lipid-mediated regulation of ion channels and the dynamics of lipid membranes, which are critical factors in inflammatory and neuropathic pain, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and viral infections. Additional techniques relevant to this research direction include whole-cell fluorometry, calcium imaging, TIRF microscopy, and fluorescence lifetime imaging.

The Alspach lab at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO, is seeking a full-time postdoctoral research associate in the fields of tumor immunology and sex disparities. We study the impacts of biologic sex on anti-tumor T cell responses to better understand tumor evolution and identify novel therapeutic strategies that can improve patient outcomes. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and intellectually invested. They will have the opportunity pursue their own ideas that are relevant to the overall goals of the lab and drive their own research projects.

 

Dr. Alspach is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology. MMI houses a diverse variety of research groups studying virology and innate and adaptive immune responses in the context of viral infection, cancer, and autoimmunity. MMI is a highly collaborative community, meaning the successful candidate will have the opportunity to form relationships with many different laboratory groups and faculty members.

The laboratory of Dr. Angel Baldan in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Saint Louis University has an immediate opening for a junior postdoctoral fellow with proven expertise in lipid/sterol metabolism, ncRNAs, RNA-seq, and/or molecular mechanisms of diet-induced diseases (CVD, NAFLD, obesity). The Baldan laboratory has ongoing research programs related to lipid droplet-associated proteins, sterol-regulated ncRNAs, and liver/adipose/intestinal/lipoprotein lipid homeostasis. An independent and highly motivated candidate with a recent Ph.D. degree and rigorous training in molecular/cell biology is required for the position. Competitive candidates have two or more first-author publications and are experienced and comfortable working with mice. Candidates with research experience in bioinformatics and next-generation sequencing are preferred but not required.

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Amina Mohammadalipour at Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO. Alipour lab combines biophysics, mechanobiology, structural biology, membrane proteins, and genetics to understand the fundamental mechanisms underlying cancer cells’ rheological properties.

 

Past experiences with cell culture, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and live imaging are required. Experiences in micropipette aspiration, AFM, flow chambers/microfluidic devices, Western blotting, and PCR are preferred but not required.

NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available for highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to join the laboratory of Dr. Aubin Moutal, in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at St Louis university to study novel proteins involved in chronic pain in the context of autoimmunity. Our work focuses on first identifying determinants of the transition from acute to chronic pain by reverse translating clinical findings to then perform a complete mechanistic characterization of how these new factors influence chronic vs physiological pain. The PI has a strong record of high impact papers with multiple recent publications in Science Translational Medicine, Pain, and PNAS. Through the active external collaborations with the New York University (Dr. Rajesh Khanna), the University of Arizona (Dr. Frank Porreca) and with the Institut neuromyogene in France the candidate will also grow an interest in ion channel regulation, central mechanisms of pain and paraneoplastic syndromes, respectively.

The candidate will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team that uses cell biology, protein engineering, biochemistry, human immunology and molecular biology techniques to understand lysosomal dysfunction in rare genetic disorders. The successful candidate must be highly motivated with extensive experience within one or more of the following areas: single cell sequencing, cell culture, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, organelle, and cell/molecular biology, while experience with advanced imaging techniques is advantageous. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in lysosomal biology.  The candidate is expected to conduct independent lab work and have a strong record of scientific productivity.   He or she should be able to think critically about complex problems and contribute to a team-working environment to advance research projects.
