The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over nine divisions. Within the division of applied nuclear physics at the Department of physics and astronomy, research is conducted in nuclear fission and safeguards. The research is focused on applications such as i) verification of nuclear material from today’s existing nuclear reactors, ii) verification of nuclear material from future nuclear energy systems, and iii) development of analysis methodologies using for instance machine learning approaches.

In this project, the selected candidate will join us in conducting research in statistical learning and system identification research, developing data-driven methods to learn signals and systems from data. There will be a focus on developing robust methods with mathematical guarantees, focusing on stability, statistical and optimization considerations. We will work in applications to cardiology and electrophysiology. The exact details of the research project are decided in a dialogue between the postdoctoral researcher and the supervisor.

Our research group specializes in the development of porous materials for applications such as gas separation (greenhouse gases), water treatment, catalysis, and drug delivery. We have strong competence in the synthesis and optimization of a wide range of porous materials, including porous oxides, zeolites, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), etc.

This project is primarily focused on the environmental applications of porous materials such as MOFs. Specific application areas include water harvesting by adsorption, and catalytic hydrogen generation using MOFs. The project mainly involves the synthesis and characterization of existing and novel MOFs, as well as adopting post-synthesis processing methods such as 3D printing and engineering of simple devices for water capture and hydrogen generation.

Detection of neutrinos at ultra-high energies (UHE, >10¹⁷eV) would be one of the most important discoveries in astroparticle physics in the 21st century. Radio detection remains the most promising technique for instrumenting a volume large enough to study UHE neutrinos, and the first detector of sufficient size (RNO-G) is currently being constructed in Greenland. At the same time, an order of magnitude larger radio array is envisioned as part of the IceCube-Gen2 efforts to build the next-generation neutrino observatory at the South Pole.

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled researcher who will have the opportunity to contribute to the new era of ultra-high-energy neutrino detection. The successful candidate is expected to work in an international environment and play a leading role in detector development by working on a deep-learning trigger system to increase the rate of detectable neutrinos substantially. This work includes the trigger design in a simulation study, its implementation on a microprocessor and/or FPGA and testing the functionality in the lab.

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is organized into seven research programs which all focus on different areas of cell and molecular biology: Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Evolution, Molecular Systems Biology and Structural Biology. The scientific basis of what we do lies in biology, but our research overlaps with other areas such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering sciences and physics. The research is focused on computer simulations of enzyme reactions, with particular focus on enzyme evolution and adaptation, in collaboration with experimental groups.

The duties for this postdoc position entail collection of data using neurophysiological measurement tools, the administration of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) with neuronavigation, recruitment of participants to ongoing studies, as well as modeling and analysis of already collected neurophysiological data and multimodal imaging data. Presentation at international conferences and the authoring of scientific papers is also part of the duties, as well as administrative work and applying for grants.

As postdoctoral fellow in the lab you will be expected to perform experiments both in vivo and ex vivo including treatment of the animals before experiments, echocardiography, and blood pressure measurements. Ex vivo methods included in the project are constant pressure Langendorff heart perfusion and evaluation of sarcomere function using skinned fibers. Standard molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, protein electrophoresis, western blotting, and more are available in the laboratory. In addition, the duties will include data analysis using R, and writing of articles and grants, as well as presenting findings at national and international conferences. The duties will include lab maintenance, and may include teaching for the interested applicant. An individualized postdoc training program will be provided, and you will be offered additional training for techniques you are not familiar with.

The current project focuses on the analysis of lung samples from horses with equine asthma and healthy controls using multi-omics technologies. The overall aimaim is to research equine asthma, define subtypes/endotypes of the disease, improve diagnostic and predictive capabilities, including treatment response, and explore the suitability of the horse as a large animal model of asthma. We are also participating in a study where the effects of exercise in extreme cold on the airways of trotting horses are being investigated

The Department of Chemistry – Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 280 employees and has a turnover of 300 million SEK. The European Spallation Source (ESS) is a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) with 13 founding countries including two host countries, Sweden and Denmark. The core of the facility is located in Lund, Sweden, while a Data Management and Software Center (DMSC) is located in Kongens Lyngby, Denmark. ESS has been built with in-kind contributions from more than 40 partners in European centers and has benefited from more than 130 collaborating institutions. A neutron user facility, ESS will produce neutrons by spallation from an accelerator-target complex that will deliver a unique long pulse to a range of neutron scattering instruments with an unprecedented neutron flux at the highest energy and spatial resolutions. The “Diffraction Resolved by Energy and Angle Measurements” (DREAM) diffractometer is one of the first instruments to be constructed at European Spallation Source (ESS). The DREAM instrument is built in a collaboration of the Laboratoire Léon Brillouin (France) and Forschungszentrum Jülich (Germany). The concept of the instrument utilizes the long pulse and unpreceded peak brightness of the ESS source by pulse shaping choppers and by viewing both thermal and cold moderators. As a result, a particularly flexible choice between high resolution and high intensity modes can be offered to the users. 2D position-sensitive 10B-detector technology will be capable for high position-sensitive resolution and also for expected high count rates. Powder diffraction, pair-distribution function and low-angle neutron scattering measurements with polarized neutrons will be possible at DREAM.

G. Messori’s research group hosts several H2020/Horizon Europe and national research projects, focusing on multiple aspects of mid and high latitude climate extremes. The post-doc will work on a project in collaboration with Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) and the German Helmholtz centre UFZ using large language models to extract information on impacts of climate extremes from textual data. Some national and international travel is expected. The post-doc, if s/he so wishes, will also have the opportunity to engage in teaching/supervising duties up to 20%.

The Department of Medical Cell Biology at Uppsala University is a strong and international research environment. The department has more than 110 employees, of which about 25 are doctoral students, 10 postdoctoral fellows, and 40 researchers, teachers and professors.

The research group in behavioural neuroendocrinology, which is headed by Professor Svante Winberg, uses zebrafish as a model for studies on behavior, and neuroendocrine stress responses. We will now recruit a postdoc for a new project on the development of environmental enrichment and optimization of zebrafish rearing. The project is funded by the Swedish research council FORMAS and is a collaboration between researchers at Swedish University of Agricultural Research (SLU, Uppsala), Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm and Gothenburg University. In addition, Tecniplast and SCANBUR, the largest suppliers of equipment for zebrafish facilities, participates as industrial partners.
