We are looking for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work with Dr Valdas Noreika, Dr Giorgia Michelini and Dr Margherita Malanchini from Queen Mary University London in the project funded by the Baily Thomas Charitable Fund. We will use sleep and sensitivity questionnaires, online psychophysical tasks and accelerometers to study sleep, sensory processing and daytime well-being in adults with intellectual disability. The appointed person will be responsible for participant recruitment, data collection and analysis, database management (Open Access practices), and writing up research reports.

The candidate will be highly motivated and self-driven with interest in cancer and-or developmental biology to study the molecular mechanisms underlying craniopharyngiomas, a paediatric Wnt-driven hypothalamic-pituitary tumour. This project lies at the boundary between tumour and developmental biology and aims to establish how oncogenic b-catenin bearing stem cells initiate tumour formation. The lab employs transgenic models, developmental biology and bioinformatics techniques to understand early stages of tumour formation.

Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to undertake research investigations in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) in order to realise the objectives and development of the research programme. The post holder will investigate critical survival and proliferative pathways in B-cell malignancies. The project aims to explore EMT-like activation in FL and CLL, assessing promising therapeutic targets. This is a pivotal step toward future drug development and subsequent clinical trials. The research will be based in the Centre for Haemato-Oncology, BCI, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

This is a fully funded project for 2 years including PhD fees for a doctor in training interested in a career in academic dermatology to undertake a PhD. A third year of funding will be applied for. We are interested in rare genetic skin diseases including ichthyosis, palmoplantar keratoderma and epidermolysis bullosa. The appointed clinical fellow will work on a project involving the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative-funded Human Pediatric Skin Atlas which will involve recruitment of patients, patient and public engagement through the Centre of the Cell and use of cutting-edge omics technology and cell biology to explore the effect of loss of basement membrane collagens on the nucleus and discover new therapeutic targets for improved patient care. 

The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London is looking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Assistant, to support work on a EU H2020 funded project in the MMV group led by Prof Ebroul Izquierdo. A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) to work with Dr Nikola Ojkic. The position is funded by a BBSRC project entitled ‘Alteration in bacterial cell envelope structure as the mechanism of antibiotic resistance and cell death’, with a proposed starting date of 1st September 2024.

Antibiotic resistance is a major threat to human health, requiring a better understanding of how antibiotics kill bacterial cells on a single-cell level and how antibiotic-resistant bacteria emerge. This project aims to use imaging, image analysis, mathematical modelling, and stochastic molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the physical mechanism of how antibiotic treatments ultimately lead to bacterial cell death.

The post-holder will join a multidisciplinary, diverse, inclusive team with frequent meetings, interactions, and high-quality mentoring. The post-holder will present data and findings at national and international conferences and scientific meetings. The post-holder will have an opportunity to develop their ideas through various collaborations with different research groups.

Prof Suzuki’s interdisciplinary laboratory conducts a range of translational research to develop advanced stem cell therapy for heart failure, studies of reparative macrophages, post-operative adhesions, etc. The project, in which you will be engaged, is exciting cutting-edge translational research in tissue-repairing macrophages. You are expected to have sufficient experience and knowledge in in vivo models. You will be able to enjoy this challenging project and accumulate precious experience and skill/knowledge in this area in the internationally competitive laboratory. The work will be based in the William Harvey Research Institute (Charterhouse Square Campus, London). This Institute has a strong record in preclinical and clinical therapeutic development and has recently made a large expansion forward in cardiovascular research with several large grants.

The research involves application of machine learning methods to heart and brain image-derived phenotypes of organ structure and function to develop models of biological aging in UK Biobank participants. The role of environmental exposures in driving accelerated aging and poorer health will be examined, with a focus on obesity and environmental pollutants.

Applicants are invited to apply for a 16-month full-time BHF funded post-doctoral position to join Professor Federica Marelli-Berg’s team investigating the role of T cells in cardiac autoimmunity. The position is at the Centre for Biochemical Pharmacology which brings together a group of leading clinical and non-clinical scientists researching the clinical, genetic, cellular and molecular basis of cardiovascular diseases. The Centre is based within Charterhouse Square Campus in the heart of City of London and within the world-renowned William Harvey Research Institute at Barts and The London Medical School, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).

The appointed person will undertake research investigations under the supervision of Professor Marelli-Berg and provide research as well as administrative support in order to realise the objectives and development of the research programme. The particular emphasis of the project will be to examine the phenotypic characteristic of a cardiotropic subset of memory T cells and their role in the development of chronic cardiac inflammation.

Applicants are invited to apply for a 18-month full-time post-doctoral research assistant position to join the group of Drs M Perretti and J Chen. The team works on resolution pharmacology and investigate mechanisms and biological signatures associated with pro-resolving therapies. The particular emphasis of the project will be to determine soluble and cellular determinants associated with heart attack and with the potential benefits due to administration of RTP-026.

This position is within the laboratory of Professor Paul Evans. The post-holder will examine the mechanisms of atherosclerosis, a major cause of heart attack and stroke, with a particular focus on endothelial cells. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of the transcription factor TWIST1 in regulating endothelial plasticity and activation in atherosclerosis. The post-holder will participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and departmental research meetings, and will also present data at high profile international and national meetings.
