A postdoctoral scientist position available at Saint Louis University to study the connections between lipid load, mitochondrial biology, and cardiac arrhythmias in animal models of cardiomyopathy and heart failure. The position entails working with C. elegans, in addition to ongoing funded studies of inter-generational cardiovascular effects of Nicotine exposure in mice. POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN BIOPHYSICS & STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY OF DNA REPAIR & RECOMBINATION ENZYMES 

One postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Prof. Edwin Antony at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. We are looking for a motivated researcher who will strive to carry out projects that decipher the molecular underpinnings of enzyme complexes. The ideal candidate for the position will have a strong background in in vitro biochemistry using recombinantly purified protein complexes. We study the dendritic cells required to mount adaptive T cell responses in the context of tumors and autoimmunity to better understand tumor evolution and identify novel therapeutic strategies that can improve patient outcomes. An immediate postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Gucan (Gabriel) Dai at the Edward A. Doisy Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Saint Louis University School of Medicine. We are seeking candidates with a solid publication record in biophysics and biochemistry, specifically in the field of ion channels or membrane proteins. Prior experience in patch-clamp electrophysiology or fluorescence cell imaging using advanced fluorescence microscopy techniques is highly preferred.

The Dai lab focuses on investigating the fundamental mechanisms underlying ion channels of excitable membranes, employing a multidisciplinary approach that combines structural biology, chemical biology, genetics, fluorescence microscopy, and electrophysiology. Notably, our lab is equipped with a state-of-the-art frequency-domain fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy, which is the only one of its kind in the state of Missouri.

We are currently pursuing research directions summarized below:

Investigating the voltage-sensing mechanisms of voltage-gated ion channels that play a crucial role in various diseases such as chronic pain, cardiac arrhythmia, and epileptic seizures. Key techniques for trainees to learn include patch-clamp fluorometry (PCF), Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET), as well as the application of fluorescent noncanonical amino acids (ncAAs).

Elucidating the mechanisms involved in the lipid-mediated regulation of ion channels and the dynamics of lipid membranes, which are critical factors in inflammatory and neuropathic pain, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and viral infections. Additional techniques relevant to this research direction include whole-cell fluorometry, calcium imaging, TIRF microscopy, and fluorescence lifetime imaging.

The laboratory of Dr. Angel Baldan in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Saint Louis University has an immediate opening for a junior postdoctoral fellow with proven expertise in lipid/sterol metabolism, ncRNAs, RNA-seq, and/or molecular mechanisms of diet-induced diseases (CVD, NAFLD, obesity). The Baldan laboratory has ongoing research programs related to lipid droplet-associated proteins, sterol-regulated ncRNAs, and liver/adipose/intestinal/lipoprotein lipid homeostasis. An independent and highly motivated candidate with a recent Ph.D. degree and rigorous training in molecular/cell biology is required for the position. Competitive candidates have two or more first-author publications and are experienced and comfortable working with mice. Candidates with research experience in bioinformatics and next-generation sequencing are preferred but not required.

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Amina Mohammadalipour at Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO. Alipour lab combines biophysics, mechanobiology, structural biology, membrane proteins, and genetics to understand the fundamental mechanisms underlying cancer cells’ rheological properties.

Past experiences with cell culture, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and live imaging are required. Experiences in micropipette aspiration, AFM, flow chambers/microfluidic devices, Western blotting, and PCR are preferred but not required.

NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available for highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to join the laboratory of Dr. Aubin Moutal, in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at St Louis university to study novel proteins involved in chronic pain in the context of autoimmunity. Our work focuses on first identifying determinants of the transition from acute to chronic pain by reverse translating clinical findings to then perform a complete mechanistic characterization of how these new factors influence chronic vs physiological pain. The PI has a strong record of high impact papers with multiple recent publications in Science Translational Medicine, Pain, and PNAS. Through the active external collaborations with the New York University (Dr. Rajesh Khanna), the University of Arizona (Dr. Frank Porreca) and with the Institut neuromyogene in France the candidate will also grow an interest in ion channel regulation, central mechanisms of pain and paraneoplastic syndromes, respectively.Major techniques include immunohistochemistry, protein-protein interactions and protein biochemistry are employed to support findings from our behavioral and electrophysiological experiments. Applicants should have a strong background in molecular biology, IF, IHC, Western analysis, and enzyme assays; experience with phosphorylation, ubiquitination, and/or a mouse colony are pluses. Successful applicants will be highly motivated individuals with good communication skills, will have a proven publication record, and the ability to work independently. The candidate will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team that uses cell biology, protein engineering, biochemistry, human immunology and molecular biology techniques to understand lysosomal dysfunction in rare genetic disorders. The successful candidate must be highly motivated with extensive experience within one or more of the following areas: single cell sequencing, cell culture, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, organelle, and cell/molecular biology, while experience with advanced imaging techniques is advantageous.
