Postdoc  summary/title:– Food Microbiology Postdoctoral Fellow

The position is part of the NSERC Alliance and Mitacs Accelerate funded project “Investigation of novel microorganisms and production methods to improve mixed fermentation beer quality” which is being carried out in collaboration with Blind Enthusiasm Brewing Company in Edmonton, Alberta. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for performing microbiological analyses on a variety of sample and experiment types, including small scale synthetic communities, samples taken from production beer, and overseeing pilot scale mixed fermentation beer experiments at the University of Alberta’s Agri-Food Discovery Place.

The successful applicant should have a strong background in fermentation, with experience in larger scale fermentations and bioinformatics analysis considered an asset. The successful applicant will work closely with Blind Enthusiasm on the collection of samples and communication of results while collaborating with the labs of Dr. Michael Gänzle, Dr. James Harynuk, and Dr. Wendy Wismer to determine how microbial community dynamics influence the quality of these complex fermentations.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:–Postdoctoral Fellow – Economic Valuation of Soil Data

The successful candidate will work closely with Drs. Xiaoli Fan and Feng Qiu, as well as an interdisciplinary team of experts, on an economic valuation of soil data project funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). (03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:–Postdoctoral Position In Computational Psychiatry (Real-World Applications of AI and Machine Learning on Health Data)

The successful applicants will participate and lead research that applies advanced statistical, AI and ML techniques to large populational health data of patients with mental and substance use disorders. Current and potential projects include two main directions: 1) Individualized prediction of mental and substance use disorders and overdoses and associated health and economical outcomes in the population using health, survey and biological data; 2) Implementation of ML models through interactions with multiple stakeholders and people with living and lived experiences.

The successful applicants will have the opportunity of supervised access to several public and government/institution owned datasets, including large (over 4 million people) de-identified health data from Alberta. In this context, there are excellent opportunities for shared mentorship and collaboration with several PIs in psychiatry and computing science, including the Alberta machine intelligence institute (Amii).

The successful applicants will play a leadership role for several research projects in computational psychiatry, develop and participate in preparation of research grant proposals, assist in the supervision and training of other personnel including technologists, graduate students, other lab members and scientific collaborators. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to work directly with our partners in Ministries of Alberta Government, Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Canadian Mental Health Association Edmonton, as well as international partners. The Clemente research group invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow to perform high-level complex research activities for projects in cardioimmunology. Our main research topics include immune responses in cardioncology, viral and autoimmune myocarditis. We use genetically modified mouse models to uncover the role of immune cells in these settings. The projects will expose the PDF to a wide variety of scientific questions and approaches, including exploring changes in immunological responses and understanding mechanistic relationships between the immune system and heart function
