Two postdoctoral research associate positions are available in the Multiscale Materials and Manufacturing Laboratory (M3L) at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). This is a joint position between UIC and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) seeking fresh PhDs with expertise in computational materials modeling informed machine learning approach development for high-performance computing (HPC) environment. A Ph.D. in appropriate engineering or physical science discipline closely related to this area of research is required. HPC resources at the UIC and ANL will be utilized for massively parallel simulations and training of generative AI models. Physics-informed machine learning approach will be used to predict material evolution under thermomechanical, electro-thermal, and electrochemical conditions. The position will be annually renewable depending on performance with a strong chance for growth, high-impact publications, and opportunities to interact with academia and national labs.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and/or evaluate a method to facilitate user-robot co-adaptation in a wearable robot using data-driven machine learning prediction
• Mentor/supervise/assist research activities within the lab for graduate/undergraduate students regarding control, mechatronics design, data analysis, human subject experiment, experimental protocol design, result interpretation/presentations, and/or manuscript preparations.

The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. JP Jin in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Research in the lab focuses on protein structure-function relationships and protein and peptide engineering for biomedical applications. A broad range of experiments and methodology are applied. A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kaori Yamada in the Department of Pharmacology & Regenerative Medicine in the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The Yamada laboratory studies the mechanisms of the trafficking of signaling molecules, such as the receptor for the growth factor, which regulates angiogenesis and vascular leakage. The regulation of receptor trafficking is a novel concept for angiogenesis-related and vascular-leakage-related diseases such as cancer growth, cancer metastasis, and eye diseases (diabetic retinopathy and wet AMD). Using mouse models, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques, we are defining the mechanisms of pathological angiogenesis and vascular leakage in these diseases.

The Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Chicago seeks a full-time post-doctoral fellow for randomized controlled trials on exercise training and physical activity in persons with multiple sclerosis. This position is offered under the supervision of Prof. Robert Motl. The post-doctoral fellow will be trained in behavior change interventions, exercise training for multiple sclerosis, and telehealth.

The candidate will conduct research activities under the supervision of the Principal Investigators, Dr. Miya Kang and Dr.Chun-Chieh Huang. The post-doc will focus on research and scientific techniques within the fields of wound healing and exosome-mediated tissue regeneration using experimental animal models as well as isolated and cultured primary cells.

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. MonicaY. Lee, locatedin the Department of Physiology &Biophysics at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).The Lee Lab has a long‐standing interest in endothelial cell signaling mechanisms and the impact of signal dysregulation on vascular pathophysiology. We are currently focused on understanding the role of nuclear pore component proteins (i.e. nucleoporins) in endothelial biology, vascular function, and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Lee is a member of the UIC Center for Cardiovascular Research (CCVR), an integrative platform for translational and clinical science, where association with the CCVR will provide postdoctoral researchers direct exposure to scientific training and networking opportunities.

We use a combination of high‐content screening together with modern in vitro and in vivo techniques to allow for a multi‐tier, integrative approach toward translational research. We have generated several novel mouse models that reflect perturbed nucleoporin expression and/or function to facilitate translational studies related to cardiovascular disease. Through collaborative efforts, we have access to multiple cutting-edge techniques to assess endothelial flow-responsiveness and vascular reactivity.

Postdoctoral Research Associate –Liew Lab, Department of Physiology and Biophysics


Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in an established laboratory in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics at University of Illinois at Chicago. The research in the laboratory is centered on understanding how metabolic homeostasis is maintained at the physiological level and defining the pathological alterations in metabolic diseases, including obesity, diabetes, and inflammation.

We are interested in defining molecular mechanisms by which hormonal and nutritional cues orchestrate metabolic physiology across tissues. A combination of cutting-edge tools will be employed, including biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, mouse genetics, genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, and endocrinology.

The Tsukasaki Laboratory, Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, is a research laboratory focused on pulmonary immune dynamics supported by an NIH PO1/RO1 grant.

Our lab seeks to understand the molecular/cellular dynamics of neutrophils, vascular endothelial cells and macrophages in lung inflammatory diseases (e.g., acute respiratory distress syndrome) using lung intravital imaging (Immunity 2024 (PMID: 38091995), Nat Commun. 2023 (PMID: 37852964), ACS nano 2022 (PMID: 35230826), Nat Immunol. 2022 (PMID: 32839607), J Clin Invest. 2020 (PMID: 32298238), Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2019 ( PMID: 31363052), Circ Res. 2017 (PMID: 29217714)). We are also developing a stabilized lung intravital imaging method using computer-vision technique (Am J Respir Cell Mol Biol. 2022 (PMID: 34555309)) and applied it to metabolic imaging and oxygen/reactive oxygen imaging methods in lung tissue.

The Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine ranks seventh in the United States in funding in the field of pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences. The department has a full range of common equipment including two-photon/confocal imaging, and is actively engaged in high-level research activities.

Our laboratory is currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated postdoctoral researcher with experience of two-photon imaging using mouse model and molecular/cellular biological experiments in lung biology and . We especially welcome candidates who can start by the end of this year, but the timing of the appointment can be negotiated.

Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Ismail lab at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Medicine, Department of Pathology. The candidate will join our funded research program whose goal is to determine the cellular and molecular immune mechanisms involved in innate recognition of intracellular bacteria by pattern recognition receptors and the effect of this innate sensing on the acquired immune responses to infection. Research in the laboratory is both basic and translational in nature and makes use of in vitro and in vivo animal-based model systems. A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Coloff in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Coloff Lab studies the unique metabolic phenotypes found in tumors with the goal of identifying new strategies of targeting metabolism for cancer therapy. Current projects include developing methods of targeting serine metabolism in cancer and understanding how nutrients are utilized by cancer cells to promote therapeutic resistance. We are seeking creative, independent scientists with experience in any area of metabolism research, but those with experience in lipid metabolism are especially encouraged to apply.

This position conducts research by independently performing components of a research project or program as directed by a senior member of the research team and also works with clinicians in the support of research and scholarship. The Research Associate II will be involved in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of research projects. Will independently conduct work complementary to the overall research objectives, including data management, analysis, and report writing. This position will also interact with clinicians and residents for the support of quality improvement projects, research and dissemination.

The Visiting Research Associate II will support the Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative (ChicagoCHEC) at the University of Illinois Cancer Center. This position will assist the ChicagoCHEC training and education initiatives by supporting pipeline programs, fostering academic and community partnerships, tracking training program and partnership outcomes, and providing grant administrative support.
