The selected candidate will also become a member of the Translational Data Analytics Institute at OSU. The successful candidate will work on an NSF-funded project and conduct research in species distribution modeling and community assembly across millennial time scales. Specifically, the candidate will (1) carry out simulations to understand the sensitivity of Species Distribution Models (SDMs) to spatial and temporal uncertainty inherent in the fossil record, (2) use the empirical fossil record of small mammals to construct near continental, temporally dynamic species distributions, and (3) use the modeled species distributions for small mammals to obtain evaluations of community functional composition, which will inform about the spatio-temporal variation in community assembly processes. The position is 100% research (50% data analysis, 40% manuscript preparation, 10% research dissemination at scientific meetings).

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will lead a project focused on the anergic/tolerance status of tumor specific CD8 T cells and their functionality in various tumor microenvironments using a range of immunology approaches on tumor models, including single cell RNA sequencing paired with TCR, western blot on rare cells, immunofluorescent staining, and other functional experiments. The Herman lab at The Ohio State University is looking to hire a postdoctoral scientist, effective immediately. Our lab is located within the Department of Molecular Genetics and studies the regulation of gene expression in a model eukaryote, the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The fellow will be specifically engaged in studies examining how a biomolecular condensate, known as the P-body, influences the levels of tubulin mRNAs. This work is funded by an ongoing grant from the National Institutes of Health and will be an extension of that reported in Hurst et al., (2022) Genetics 222(1):iyac105.

Required: Doctorate degree in the molecular life sciences in areas like Genetics, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry. Experience with molecular genetic methodologies and a proven ability to work independently is desired. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the training of students and technicians working in the lab.

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Xue Han, in the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity and Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) at the Ohio State University.

The main research directions of the Han Lab are to 1) study new mechanisms of immune escape in solid tumors and hematologic malignancies; 2) identify novel immunomodulating pathways and their applications to treat cancer, inflammation, and autoimmune diseases; 3) understand the mechanisms of immune-related adverse events caused by cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Han has led several vital projects to characterize PD-1H (VISTA), a recently identified immunomodulating molecule. 1) For the first time, identifying PD-1H as a suppressive receptor on hematopoietic cells and firstly describing promoted anti-tumor immunity in PD-1H deficient mice (J Clinic Invest, 2014). 2) Solving crystal structure and finding key unique structural features of PD-1H (PNAS, 2020). 3) In addition to basic immunobiology, Dr. Han’s work shows that PD-1H is an essential molecule to control autoimmune lupus (Science Translational Medicine, 2019).

This study led to the collaboration with a biotech company to develop therapeutic agents to treat human autoimmune and inflammation diseases. 4) In addition to solid tumor, Dr. Han and her colleagues find that PD-1H can mediate immune evasion in myeloid leukemia, in which PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy doesn’t work well in clinic (J Clinic Invest, 2024).

The interdisciplinary lab of Dr. Peixuan Guo at The Ohio State University seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar experienced in either molecular biology, cellular biology, vertebrate animal models, murine cancer models, human cell culture, biotechnology, biochemistry, protein/RNA structural computation, RNA nanotechnology, or nucleic acids chemistry. The goal is to transform basic science research in RNA nanotechnology and extracellular vesicles through innovative approaches to disease treatment and diagnostics, creating the next generation scientific workforce. The researcher will work on projects related to chemical modification of RNA nanoparticles and mRNA, development of novel CRISPR and mRNA therapeutics and delivery vehicles, in depth studies of therapeutic assays of nanoparticles, delivery of developed therapeutics by engineered exosomes, and fundamental studies of viral assembly mechanisms through component associations and mutations.

The primary responsibilities of the postdoctoral scholar will include:

A postdoctoral scholar position is available immediately in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) at The Ohio State University (OSU). The postdoc will lead high-resolution model development for the combined region of Maumee River Basin and Old Woman Creek in Ohio, and application of watershed and water quality models. The selected candidate will work under project funded by the Ohio Department of Higher Education – Harmful Algal Bloom Research Initiative (ODHE-HABRI) program to improve watershed modeling and evaluate policy and practices for enhancing the nutrient removal efficacy of restored and engineered wetlands throughout the Western Lake Erie Basin (WLEB). The postdoc will coordinate efforts with a collaborative team of researchers at academic institutions and stakeholder members (State and federal agencies) and will help organize/engage an advisory group.

In addition to leading modeling efforts, the postdoc will be expected to disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at professional meetings. This postdoctoral researcher position will work with Dr. Darren Drewry and support a newly funded project to evaluate camelina as a bio-energy cover crop. This position will help build the portfolio of CFAES research utilizing advanced field sensing and simulation and modeling technology to advance precision agriculture and knowledge in vegetation biophysics. This position will involve data collection, analysis and modeling and simulation research tasks. It is expected that the Post Doctoral Scholar will develop and test experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and make recommendations for their utilization; participate and take a leadership role in the development of the goals of new research projects and in the planning of laboratory work. The Tso Lab at The Ohio State University Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health (https://u.osu.edu/ivytsolab/) is seeking 2 postdoctoral fellows to work on a new NIMH-funded study investigating social cognition in psychosis spectrum disorders using EEG and other ongoing research studies. The lab uses multimethods, including psychophysics, eye tracking, multimodal fMRI, EEG, neuromodulation (TMS, tACS), and computational modeling to investigate the cognitive and neural bases of social processes affected in psychosis and bipolar disorder and related psychopathology. Start date is flexible, but should be between January and August 2024. Both clinical and non-clinical PhD candidates are welcome to apply.

The postdoc fellows’ primary responsibilities include: 1) setting up experimental tasks, including coding the stimulus presentation software; 2) building the databases necessary to manage data collection and data sharing; 3) setting up scripts to preprocess behavioral and EEG data; and 4) performing data preprocessing on a regular basis as data being collected; 5) performing data analyses; 6) presenting research findings at scientific conferences, writing and publishing manuscripts to disseminate the findings; and 9) assisting with grant writing to obtain research funds to continue this line of research.

The Kudryashov lab at The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences invites a candidate for an NIH-funded postdoctoral scholar position.

We are looking for a skilled and highly motivated postdoctoral scholar with expertise in biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, biophysics or related areas to conduct cutting-edge research on several projects focused on the role of actin binding proteins (e.g., plastins) and actin-specific bacterial toxins in the pathogenesis of human hereditary and infectious diseases, and cancer. Two examples of the lab’s priority projects are the recent discoveries of actin processive polymerization at the pointed end by Vibrio toxins (Sci. Adv., 2022) and the allosteric regulation of actin bundling proteins plastins (NSMB, 2022). Both, plastin and toxin projects relate to the mechanotransduction/mechanosensing properties of the actin cytoskeleton. Therefore, candidates with interests in mechanobiology are particularly welcomed.
