The laboratory of Dr. Hong-Wen Tang in the Cancer and Stem Cell Biology (CSCB) Program at Duke-NUS Medical School is searching for a Research Fellow with strong enthusiasm and interest in muscle diseases. The Tang lab’s scientific focus is to understand how signaling networks rewire metabolism and alter physiological functions in muscles under aging or tumor conditions. His lab uses unique cross-species and interdisciplinary approach incorporating Drosophila genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, and mouse models, to identify new evolutionary conserved mechanisms underlying human muscle diseases.

The Signature Research Programme in Health Services and Systems Research (“HSSR”) at Duke-NUS is a centre of academic excellence for research and education on the organisation, funding, and delivery of health services. The programme’ s focus is on public health and clinical service innovation in an increasingly complex and connected world. The selected candidate will support the health economic evaluations for health interventions under the ADVANcing Clinical Evidence in Infectious Diseases (ADVANCE-ID) programme, which is a network of more than 30 hospitals across Asia collaborating in the conduct of clinical research in infectious diseases to improve the “evidence base” for the optimal prescribing of antibiotics to seriously ill patients with infections associated with antimicrobial resistance. The candidate will also support a variety of research activities under the Impact Assessment Unit, jointly managed between Duke-NUS and SingHealth. 

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow with expertise in immunology. Our team aims to leverage on stem cell biology (Sagi, Chia et al., Nature 2016; Chia et al., Nature Cell Biology 2019; Chia et al., Nature Cell Biology 2017) and cell engineering to develop alternative immunotherapeutic strategies to target refractory cancer types. The candidate will work closely with clinicians to establish empirical platforms for identifying and validating cancer vaccine candidates, and to translate research findings into clinical practice. Also, the candidate will be involved in the assessment and development of vaccines against novel antigens for the treatment of cancer and other human diseases. The successful candidate will need to independently design and execute experiments, troubleshoot issues, interpret results and give project updates. The Policy Systems Group at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, is seeking applications for a full-time postdoctoral researcher position in Governance of AI (Case Research, Online Experiments & Delphi). The position is available immediately for 2 years.
The postdoctoral researcher will be hired to carry out the multidisciplinary research focused on Governance of AI under the PI’s supervision for 2 year. The research fellow is expected to have significant research experience in studying Governance of AI/Autonomous systems/Robotics in Public Policy or closely related fields.  The project using a policy design lens will contribute to the literature on governance of AI through mixed-method research in four phases that focus on trust in AI. In this postdoctoral appointment we will conceptualise trust in AI and identify factors to gauge public trust in AI that will serve as a foundation for examining factors such as trust in technology and trust in government to manage the risks. In this appointment the postdoctoral fellow will approach experts to identify essential factors and policy measures to ensure and maintain public trust in AI. Policy design involves choosing appropriate policy instruments, and to have more nuanced perspectives of these, expert surveys will provide insights on regulations for the safe operation of AI systems. We will conduct an online experiment involving respondents from Singapore to examine the institutions and regulatory arrangements that would enhance their trust in AI. The experiment will focus on high-risk AI applications in critical areas like surgery, public service provision, law enforcement, and justice. The findings from the work carried out by the postdoctoral fellow will be consolidated in the final phase of the project to suggest policy instruments to build and enhance trust in AI, particularly in Singapore.

The Heat Resilience & Performance Centre (HRPC) is a first-of-its-kind research centre, established at the National University of Singapore (NUS), to spearhead and conduct research and development to address the challenges arising from climate change & extreme heat.  

We are seeking a Research Fellow who will play a key role in driving the development, execution and analysis of research aimed at addressing the challenges of training and operating in rising ambient temperatures. With data being one of the centre’s key enablers, experience in the design, management, and analysis of large data sets in a similar or related field would be advantageous. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary group comprising exercise and thermal physiologists, data scientists, biomedical engineers, and researchers. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to be a part of the team looking to generate fundamental and forward-looking solutions to working in the heat. 

The primary objectives of these two positions are to foster a profound design principle towards novel, cost-effective electrocatalysts and reactors for the efficient conversion of CO2/CO into liquid fuels. The successful candidate will work with Prof YAO Shao Qin on chemical biology/drug discovery-related research under a project on “A Paradigm Shift in Kinase Drug Discovery – Development of Lysine-Targeting, Cell-Active Covalent Inhibitors (CIs) with High Potency and Selectivity (MOE T2)”.

Human kinases and epigenetic proteins are important therapeutic targets. Recent development of selective and potent inhibitors of proteins has yielded remarkable results in disease treatment, with numerous drugs already on the market, and many more undergoing clinical trials. Notwithstanding, the discovery of new covalent kinase and epigenetic drugs remains highly challenging, including issues related to selectivity, efficacy and acquired drug resistance. Taking cue from the kinase drug discovery field, the hypothesis of these projects is that a universal strategy for targeted covalent inhibitors (TCIs) capable of potent target inhibition and minimal acquired drug resistance is possible, if highly effective small molecules could be developed to covalently target non-cysteine (C) nucleophilic residues within/near the active-site of kinase/epigenetic proteins. Our recent discovery of covalent kinase inhibitors against BCR-ABL (a key kinase for CML) in which CBA/SA and EBA warheads formed stable, (reversible and irreversible) covalent linkage with catalytic lysine (K) in Abl kinase under cellular environments indicates other covalent chemistries are feasible. Therefore, the goal of the current proposals is to confirm covalent chemistries targeting other nucleophilic residues (E/D/R/M/etc) are possible, and amenable to the development of cell-active, selective TCIs for various therapeutic proteins.

The Energy Studies Institute (ESI) is a research institute in the National University of Singapore seeking to advance the understanding of energy policy issues by conducting independent research and analysis. We are looking for researchers to join a multi-disciplinary team carrying out research projects on a range of energy issues that are of concern to Singapore and the region.

 

There are openings at the research associate level to ensure the timely delivery of research and policy recommendations with national, regional and/or international clients. The focus is on the international security of supply in the context of the global low carbon energy transition. The research is on transforming food waste into digestates containing active biomolecules to enhance vegetable growth. Utilizing anaerobic digestion, we aim to recover essential nutrients such as N, P and K from food waste and integrate them into waste-derived hydrogel/biochar for optimal vegetable cultivation, thereby closing the waste loop in farming practices.

The Centre for 5GDBT is in search of a Research Fellow (RF) with a proven ability to lead and execute research projects independently. The role requires a strong foundation in managing research projects and a deep understanding of smart technologies within the Built Environment (BE) industry, specifically in the Facilities Management (FM) domain.
