Postdoc  summary/title:– Research Fellow (Quantum Nanophotonics, Nonlinear Metasurfaces)

This job aims to address some critical issues in realizing efficient tunable polarization-entangled state and hyper-entangled state generation based on the nonlinear metasurface platform. The main targets are threefold:

1. Develop high-efficiency polarization-entangled Bell state sources based on the nonlinear metasurface platform: By optimizing the design of the metasurfaces, achieving triple high-Q factor resonances at both the pump, single, and idler wavelengths of the spontaneous parametric down-conversion process to boost the polarization-entangled photon pair generation at the nanoscale. The efficiency is expected to be comparable to that of traditional crystal-based light sources.

2. Develop tunable polarization-entangled state sources based on the active nonlinear metasurface platform: By employing electro-optic or all-optical modulation methods, dynamically control the second-order nonlinear susceptibility tensors of the metasurfaces to manipulate both the intensity and polarization state of the entangled photon pairs, enabling continuous tuning of the photon pairs’s state from a determined state to an entangled Bell state.

3. Develop hyper-entangled state sources based on the spatially-inhomogeneous anisotropy nonlinear metasurface platform: By superimposing signal and idler photons with different phase distributions, achieve hyper-entangled states involving polarization and emission path or optical angular momentum. Additionaly, by designing different resonant modes for signal and idler photons, achieve hyper-entangled states involving polarization and frequency.

Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth physical insights and interdisciplinary knowledge in nonlinear and quantum optics, nanophotonics, metasurfaces, plasmonics, and related fields. Candidates with practical experience in designing and characterizing nonlinear metasurfaces and measuring quantum entangled states is preferred.
