Postdoc  summary/title:– A postdoctoral fellow position in classical- and quantum-enhanced imaging at Indiana University Bloomington

A postdoctoral fellow position is now available at the Department of Physics and/or jointly at the Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, U.S.A. This project uses spatial, temporal, wavefront, and polarization-structured light beams to mimic quantum imaging properties for biological applications. The project aims to conduct proof-of-concept experiments of enhanced imaging performance using optical coherence tomography (OCT) as the bioimaging modality. The overarching goal is to show that the new approaches could overcome and outperform existing OCT disadvantages, either for those based on classical supercontinuum light sources or single-photon quantum light sources. This experimental research will involve designing, developing, constructing, and characterizing several types of structured light, generating beams with entangled degrees-of-freedoms (dubbed classical entanglement of light or mode-entanglement). Then, these visible and near-infrared beams will be used to test the Mach–Zehnder interferometry-like OCT imaging setup. Some simulations will be accompanied to verify and guide the experiments. In this exciting role, you will work under the direction of Prof. Chen-Ting Liao (physics) and Prof. Hui Min Leung (engineering). Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoctoral Fellow in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

We are seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Jaeyeon Kim, an associate professor, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM-Indianapolis) and IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr. Kim studies the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and progression of ovarian and breast cancer with genetically engineered mouse models and human specimens. The current research focus is to elucidate a conundrum surrounding high cancer risks and distinct cancer susceptibility among BRCA1 carriers. Despite the fact that every cell in their body has a harmful BRCA1 mutation, these women are predisposed particularly to ovarian and breast cancers. It remains a mystery. A seminal study (PNAS 2020; PMID: 33262282) from his lab points to the ovarian hormone progesterone as the culprit for BRCA1 carriers’ distinctive susceptibility to ovarian and breast cancer. Integrating this novel insight and unique Brca1 mouse models, his lab is seeking to decipher the molecular mechanisms underlying the progesterone regulation of ovarian and breast cancer development in BRCA1 carriers—with an emphasis on DNA damage/repair, cell-cycle checkpoint regulation, and immune modulation. This innovative, high-impact research will not only reveal a basic molecular mechanism of cancer susceptibility with BRCA1 mutations, but this knowledge will also offer an innovative strategy for the effective nonsurgical prevention and control of these formidable cancers wreaking havoc on women.

The postdoctoral fellow will test research hypotheses in rodent seizure models and cell cultures, primarily utilizing molecular and cell biology techniques. The Obeid lab investigates the mechanisms of seizure emergence and their effects on cognitive and behavioral neurodevelopment in rodent seizure models. Our primary goal is to identify molecular targets for novel treatment strategies. The laboratory employs a variety of molecular techniques, longterm continuous EEG monitoring in rodents, and neurobehavioral testing panels. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to independently plan and conduct experiments under the guidance of the PI, using molecular and cellular biology techniques that include, but are not limited to, cell culture, western blotting, PCR, gene knockdown and overexpression, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. Laboratory work will involve animal handling and the potential participation in neurobehavioral testing. Work may also involve electrode implantation surgery and EEG recording in rodents (initially semi-independently under the PI’s supervision). The postdoctoral fellow is expected to collect and analyze data, summarize findings, and participate/assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and possibly grants. The duties also include training lab personal, participating in laboratory and equipment maintenance, ordering supplies as needed, performing literature review, updating research protocols and design, and potentially developing new ideas that serve the research goals set by the PI.

Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoctoral – Brain Tumors (RICHARDSON LAB)

A full-time Post-Doctoral Research position is available in the Department of Neurological Surgery to conduct studies on the tumor microenvironment in primary (glioma, medulloblastoma) and secondary brain tumors. We will use replicating retroviral vector (RRV) gene therapies to interrogate treatment efficacy and immune responses in the tumor microenvironment. Our research will also focus on the effects of oxygen tension (hypoxia vs normoxia) on the efficacy of viral therapy, chemotherapy, and immune responses both in vitro and in vivo. We are seeking a self-directed, self-motivated, curious, creative, well-organized candidate with extensive experience in molecular biology, next-generation sequencing techniques, data analysis, and animal handling to join our team.

Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoctoral – Pediatric Brain Tumors (Tailor Lab)

A full-time Post-Doctoral Research position is available in the Department of Neurological Surgery. The candidate will assist the principal investigator in conducting research on stem cells and pediatric brain tumors, primarily medulloblastoma and ependymomas. Our research is focused on examining the early steps of tumorigenesis from normal neural stem cells to full blown cancer. We will model brain cancer predisposition syndromes such as Gorlin syndrome, neurofibromatosis, MMRD with iPS and neural stem cells. Candidate must be comfortable with stem cell culture techniques and using whole animal models to study tumor formation and progression in order to discern neoplastic mechanisms and possible therapeutic targets. We are seeking a self-directed, self-motivated, curious, creative, well-organized candidate with extensive experience, stem cell and molecular biology, next-generation sequencing techniques, data analysis, and animal handling to join our team.
