PhD position summary/title:–Ph.D. Position in A.I. for healthcare

Our goal is to develop state-of-the-art approaches and build best-in-class methods to capitalize on multimodal clinical information for building robust decision support systems powered by (explainable and interpretable) predictive algorithms for guiding patient therapy across all disease stages, the assessment of treatment effects using counterfactual inference and the identification of causal mechanisms driving disease progression (see examples of our latest work [1-8]). Moreover, there are possibilities to expand the research scope towards working with heterogeneous biomedical data.

(02) Fully Funded PhD Position 

PhD position summary/title:–Research Assistant (PhD student)

In the chair, we conduct cutting-edge research on topics within Economics of Education and Labor/Personnel Economics. We employ the newest empirical techniques for causal identification. In particular, we are currently conducting and planning field experiments (RCTs) in Switzerland and abroad.
You will be enrolled in the Graduate School of Business with good opportunities to interact with grad students from all departments at the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Informatics. You will be taking graduate courses in the doctoral program on Economics of Education in the Swiss Leading House VPET-ECON (https://www.educationeconomics.uzh.ch/en/international-course-program/courses.html) as well as have the opportunity to take other relevant graduate courses within the Faculty. The expected duration of the PhD is 4-5 years.
The chair is seaking to hire either two PhD students or a PhD student and a Postdoc to start in the first half of 2025. In the chair, we are teaching one course in German, reason for which one of the PhD students/postdoc will need to have good enough language skills to teach in German; the other courses are in English.

PhD position summary/title:–Open PhD position in computational chemistry

The PhD project will deal with development and application of novel, accurate approaches for the study of functional catalytic compounds. A possible direction of the project is the development of advanced dynamic approaches for detailed and realistic study of reaction mechanisms and reaction networks considering in a sophisticated manner environmental effects (also under catalytic conditions). PhD position summary/title:–PhD and EVPC (European Veterinary Parasitology College) Residency: combined position in Veterinary Parasitology

The Institute of Parasitology at the University of Zurich (IPZ) was founded in 1968 as a dual institute of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Vetsuisse Faculty) and the Faculty of Medicine. The IPZ works in the service of veterinary and human medicine and is a reference center for several parasitoses.
Research at the IPZ is basic and problem-oriented and includes veterinary, medical, epidemiological and cell biological research.
Veterinary Parasitology: we focus on different aspects of parasite infections in a wide array of animals aiming at better animal health, welfare and productivity. We investigate the pathological and pathophysiological processes inducing parasitic diseases, the molecular negotiations between parasites and their hosts, and develop and study the performance of diagnostic tools for individual analyses and epidemiological studies. Our overall goal is to understand the pathogenesis of parasitoses and to identify appropriate therapies and control measures.

With the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the Universities of Fribourg (UniFr), Lausanne (UNIL) and Zurich (UZH), and the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF) in Davos have launched the RoDynAlpS project, the first comprehensive and consistent study of past, present and regional evolution of rock glaciers in Switzerland. PhD position summary/title:–PhD Position for exploring the usage of neuromorphic technologies in precision Farming

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic PhD student to work on a project funded by the Digital Society Initiative of Zurich regarding the use of neuromorphic technologies in the field of precision farming.
The project is broad enough to encompass several possible research directions, according to the interests and experience of the PhD student. It involves utilizing both digital and mixed analog-digital neuromorphic technologies to optimize greenhouse agriculture management. The idea is to proceed on two parallel levels:

  • Exploiting analog technologies developed in the NCS group for the integration of sensing, actuation, and management (primarily of water and nutrients) on a small scale in greenhouse cultivation in an extremely low-power manner.
  • Leveraging digital neuromorphic technologies (such as Loihi or implementations on RISC-V) for monitoring and optimizing greenhouse conditions. Ideally, by the end of the project, there should be communication and integration between these two levels.
