(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:–Post Doctoral Associate

The microMechanics of Deformation (mMOD) group at Rutgers University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with interest and background in crystalline interfaces (grain and phase boundaries), dislocation theory, and molecular dynamics simulations.

The research to be performed under this up-to 2-year position is focused on understanding the nature of line defect (dislocation and disconnection) structures in crystalline interfaces and their connection to interface migration. Under this position, the major contributions to this effort will be: (1) theoretical analysis of grain and phase boundary defect structures, (2) analysis of grain boundaries in externally published atomic structure databases, and (3) analysis of boundary migration mechanisms using molecular dynamics simulations. A large focus will be leveraging a tool (called ILDA) recently developed by the group for extracting interfacial line defect structures from atomistic datasets.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoctoral Fellow (Valvezan Lab)

The Valvezan lab studies how metabolic networks are coordinated to promote cell growth, and how to leverage that understanding to exploit metabolic dependencies in cancer. We recently discovered that the activity of the master metabolic regulator Mechanistic Target of Rapamycin Complex 1 (mTORC1), oscillates throughout the cell cycle with important functional consequences for cell growth and proliferation (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.02.06.579216v1). We seek a postdoctoral fellow to study how metabolism is differentially regulated throughout the cell cycle, and whether there are cell cycle phase-specific metabolic vulnerabilities that can be exploited in cancer.

We discovered a targetable metabolic vulnerability that is induced downstream of mTORC1 in cancer, and can be exploited using clinically approved therapeutics to selectively kill cancer cells that have uncontrolled mTORC1 activation (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29056426/, https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32271165/). We seek a Postdoctoral Fellow to determine the full translational potential of this potent vulnerability in human cancers.

(16) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoctoral Fellow

Applications are invited for motivated scholars with a strong background in lysosomal biology or cell biology to join the laboratory of Pingyue Pan at the Department of Neuroscience and Cell Biology in Rutgers University – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The primary research interest in the lab is to understand dopaminergic signaling and its dysregulation in Parkinson’s disease and substance use disorder.  Currently, we are investigating the Synj1 gene, which is linked to multiple dopamine related illnesses, including Parkinsonism. In our recent study, we found altered lysosomal parameters and abnormal autolysosomal function in the Synj1 haploinsufficient mouse. Dysfunctional endolysosomal system is highly implicated in the pathogenesis of PD, however, it remains to be investigated whether and how PD associated Synj1 mutation influences the autolysosomal system leading to neurodegeneration. This question will be addressed using novel transgenic mouse models with dopamine neuron specific deletion of Synj1. We employ primary dopamine neuron cultures from transgenic mouse models combined with quantitative imaging, biochemical and behavioral analyses to understand these mechanisms. The position is funded by the NIH R01 grant and startup funds.

About Rutgers University, New Jersey, United States – Official Website

Rutgers University formally known as Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is a public land-grant research university based in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Chartered in 1766, Rutgers was originally called Queen’s College. It is the eighth-oldest college in the United States, the second-oldest in New Jersey (after Princeton University), and one of the nine U.S. colonial colleges that were chartered before the American War of Independence. In 1825, Queen’s College was renamed Rutgers College in honor of Colonel Henry Rutgers, whose substantial gift to the school had stabilized its finances during a period of uncertainty. For most of its existence, Rutgers was a private liberal arts college but it has evolved into a coeducational public research university after being designated The State University of New Jersey by the New Jersey Legislature via laws enacted in 1945 and 1956.
