PhD position summary/title:– Doctoral student in Sustainable energy systems
The doctoral student will work on the project “Evaluating transformative energy governance in an urban context”. The aim of this project is to increase the capacity of cities to govern transformative change towards sustainable and climate-neutral energy systems. The project, which has an interdisciplinary approach, includes three doctoral students – one at Lund University (IIIEE), one at Linköping University and one at Stockholm Environmental Institute. The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency and the doctoral students will be part of the national interdisciplinary graduate school in Energy Systems.
The focus of the project is on the evaluation of transformative policy tools for climate-neutral energy system, and the development of an interdisciplinary evaluation framework that will allow for building strategies of continuous, learning-oriented evaluation approaches that can make the implementation of new transformative policy instruments more effective. The empirical focus will be on transformative governance tools which are currently gaining increasing attention in research and policy, (1) urban experimentation and system demonstrations, (2) transformative finance at the city level, and (3) public procurement for system innovation.
The doctoral student at the IIIEE will focus on the evaluation of public procurement for system innovation, taking into account aspects of how procurement programs support a transformative change of local energy systems, technology change (including technology performance), various learning processes related to innovation, and institutional change.

PhD position summary/title:– Doctoral student in Computer Science with a focus on software engineering within the NextG2Com Competence Center
The doctoral project is part of the theme focused on Software Systems and Continuous Software Engineering in the competence center NextG2Com, which is a long-term Vinnova-funded collaboration between Lund University and several companies, for instance, Volvo Cars, Remotive Labs, CodeScene, Bosch, Ericsson, and Tetra Pak.
More information about NextG2Com Competence Center (nextg2com.lu.se)
The project focus is driven by industrial needs around continuous software engineering in cyber-physical systems, i.e., systems with both software and hardware, e.g., automotive and internet-of-things systems. These systems may further include a mix of AI-enabled software components (behavior is based on training on data) and rule-based software components (behavior is defined by software code).
In cyber-physical systems, data-driven development (DDD) is particularly powerful due to the intrinsic integration of computing, networking, and physical processes. Cyber-physical systems and their development generate vast amounts of data that can be leveraged to improve system quality. In this project, we want to investigate how advanced data analytics can guide decisions throughout the development process. The integration of advanced data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence allows for the interpretation of large volumes of data to identify patterns, predict failures, and guide tasks such as resource allocation, and test planning.

PhD position summary/title:– PhD student in In Vivo Dendritic Cell Reprogr. for Cancer Immunotherapy
The Cell Reprogramming in Hematopoiesis and Immunity research group at the Department of Laboratory Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine studies how hematopoietic cell fate is specified, maintained, and eventually modified or reversed. Inspired from the fields of stem cell biology, immunology, and cancer we use an interdisciplinary approach to mechanistically understand hematopoietic and immune cell identities and translate our findings into novel gene and cell therapies. You can read more about the research group at https://pereiralab.com/. Our group is now recruiting a full-time PhD student that will work on the molecular mechanisms underlying DC reprogramming which will provide valuable information about the mode of action of TFs in reprogramming and cell lineage specification. Ultimately, this understanding could enable the generation of DCs with improved efficiency and fidelity and provide novel insights into the ontogeny of human DCs. The group focuses on cell reprogramming, hematopoiesis, and the development of cell and gene immunotherapeutic strategies.

PhD position summary/title:– Doctoral student in Structural Engineering with focus braking and traction forces on railway bridges
The PhD project aims to improve the treatment of braking and traction loads for the design of new, and verification of existing, railway bridges. This includes an investigation into the structural models used as well as the applied loads (and how these are combined with other loads). A probabilistic framework is to be adopted to be compatible with the safety format adopted in modern design codes (i.e., partial safety factor method calibrated using reliability-based assessments). It is anticipated that the outcome will result in recommendations for improved procedures relating to the design and verification of railway bridge systems with a consistent safety format. This should also reduce the potential over-expenditure of resources owing to highly conservative design practices while providing insights for improving the load rating of existing railway bridges.
